My Students

A typical day in my art room consists of creative play activities which get ideas flowing for individualized art projects. My students are invited to be playful and engage themselves fully in a world created by them.

My students are motivated, playful, artistic, and creative when it comes to the arts.

They participate in many arts forms throughout their week and display their interests in the arts by being wonderful performers and visual artists and incredible audience members. Our school supports learning through the arts from Pre K to Fifth Grade. Coming from diverse backgrounds as teachers and students, we thrive on the connections we make through the arts.

My Project

My students have created small houses based on observations and discussions about architecture they have seen in Brooklyn, NY. They have created interior and exterior designs for their houses. Now that they have been completed, I would like my students to be able to extend their creativity through play and add wooden people, tea lights, and objects. I think by adding these items to their houses, their play will be enhanced and will lead to social interactions during their play.

This project will provide meaningful experiences for my students.

Students will be able to interact with their creations. This experience will allow them to reflect on what they have made and also revise their creations as needed. They will be able to see what changes are needed by playing with their house. In this sense, their learning will be effortless and individualized. No cookie cutter art!
