This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The cart and stand up desk allow me to move around the classroom in order to interact best with my students. They will be engaged learners while they recreate their own renditions of either a sketch or color art drawings about a famous art piece or mural from Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Our students love art, but they are encouraged to write about the aesthetics of the art to gain appreciation for other's cultures.

I hope that my students will appreciate the murals that Diego Rivera created at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

We will explore these two prolific artists and students will be able to laminate and preserve their favorite art renditions. Art promotes intercultural communication and taps into multiple intelligences. Through art, students will also take turns with the spin wheel as they contribute to class discussions when we deconstruct elements of art in the target language. They will collaborate with other classmates and use a variety of tools such as crayons and pencils to sketch and add details to their interpretation of art. I also look forward to having students feel a sense of community for this project and encourage them to further analyze art in order to understand the humanities.
