My Students

I am the science teacher for Pre-K through fifth grades in a Title I school where approximately 95% of the students receive free lunch. My students are full of energy and enjoy exploring the world around them!

The neighborhood contains one of New York City's largest public housing developments, and most of my students reside there.

Due to the geographic location of the neighborhood, there are few trains and bus routes servicing the community, so my students are very isolated from so much of what New York City has to offer.

My Project

My students do not have art class but they love art! Because of this, I try to integrate art into science as often as possible. However, our basic art supplies are running low so this is getting more and more difficult to do.

The markers, crayons, modeling clay, pencils, and paint will provide my students with the materials they need to creatively demonstrate their understanding of science concepts.

The students will use the modeling clay and paint to make models of landforms, animals, animal life cycles, and more. They will use the markers, crayons, and pencils to draw animal habitats, diagrams of electric circuits, pictures of the water cycle, and many other science concepts. Additionally, these supplies will allow students who struggle with reading and writing to express their ideas and discoveries.

These basic art supplies will enhance my students' understanding of science concepts and provide them with the tools that they need to bring their work to life!
