My Students

My third grade students are just beginning their artist adventure! We need tons of art supplies to support their creativity in all subject areas!

My students live in a poverty stricken area in California.

Our school provides 100% free lunch to all children. Many students lack parental care and guidance, so more often than not, school is their safe haven. Regardless of their home lives, my students come to school everyday with a smile on their face and a positive outlook on learning. They are as bright and motivated as can be. They come to school eager to learn and have dreams of going to college. Sadly, I do not have many fun art supplies to offer them enriched, fun, art activities or lessons. They would love being able to create art project if I had the necessary supplies to offer them.

My Project

Several of my students respond better to creative learning in the arts. In today's classroom, a majority of lessons and classroom activities are based solely around language arts and mathematics. Although they too are valuable in a child's education, it is art that is lacking in today's classrooms. Sadly art is being simply omitted all together, because they do not have the necessary art supplies in their classrooms to offer fun art projects for their student. With these supplies, I will incorporate my language arts, math, and science lessons with art. They will be able to model math figures with clay and provide art that go with their creative writing. In science, they will even be able to create models of living things and the planets.

My project is important because I strongly feel children NEED art in the classroom, especially in our community.

If I can tap into their creative side early they may go on to be tomorrow's creative designers and artists of the future!
