Help me give my students the necessary canvases & brushes to create beautiful paintings! While my students have painted on paper before, due to prices, we have never painted on canvases!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Making art, not only reduces stress & anxiety, but is proven to release endorphins into the brain, helping artists and creative minds alike with improving their mental health. Painting specifically, allows students to break away from the traditional crayons and paper artwork and move toward a more advanced & challenging medium.

This process of learning how to paint creates an environment where students will also learn the value of respecting one's environment, trusting in their own abilities, and letting go of negative expectations.

How will they learn this:

A) Learning to follow directions & respect the studio materials forces students to develop spatial & social awareness which in turn, will help them understand the value & proper way to take care of the studio materials.

B) Creating art forces students to learn to embrace their shortcomings and instead, see it as an opportunity for growth rather than a judgment of their character. In art, mistakes are guaranteed; its about how you learn from your mistakes that matter.

C) How to let go of expectations & fully embrace their potential.

For many students, the expectation to be "perfect" translates to their ability to make art. These intense expectations often create paralysis which inhibits the student's ability to try, fail, and learn from their mistakes. By removing these expectations & giving students a safe space to learn, they can explore their potential & reach for the stars!

The last time many of my students created a piece of artwork was in middle school. As these students begin to mature and step into their lives as young adults, it is essential that we continue to nurture their "inner child" and help them develop healthy habits & coping mechanisms, especially during these difficult teenage years.
