My Students

I am an art teacher in a self-contained special needs school. I have the most special and wonderful students in the world! We like to explore art and artists together, I learn from my students as much as they learn from me. It is amazing to see the art world through their eyes. I am very blessed.

I can honestly say they all love art!

They can't wait to come to my class and create their very own masterpieces. It is amazing to see their faces light up when they have created something they are proud of. It does wonders for their self-esteem. I have students with a wide range of disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy and downs syndrome just to name a few. They all learn at different levels and degrees, but one thread that runs through is that they are all visual learners. I have requested several art DVDs because it makes the art experience more real and understandable to them. I teach the whole school, therefore I need a vast amount of supplies in order to keep creating and exploring. Some of my students are non-verbal; they express themselves through their art work.

My Project

Every year we have a special "Art Gallery" art show in our school to showcase our students' art work. We invite local politicians and special guests to attend. Other students in the school help to cater the affair with refreshments. It is a big event and we have been front page news in the local paper several times. Due to the popularity of our art show the local art gallery/art school has been so impressed with my students' work that they have been inviting us every summer to exhibit at their art gallery!

The generous donations will provide much needed materials and teaching aids to continue the art program in our school.

We are always striving to learn more and achieve more. It is imperative to have the canvas, watercolor paints and construction paper in the art room so that we can explore new avenues and channels in the art world. My students and I would like to thank you in advance for allowing us to have the opportunity to do so.
