My students need Clay and modeling tools so that they can make pottery, and art books and DVDs because most of my students are visual learners due to their handicaps.

My Students

My students face challenges every day. They have cognitive and physical disabilities, some have both. most of them cannot read or write but they can experience themselves in their beautiful art work! Sometimes just grasping a paintbrush can be a great challenge.

I try to adjust materials and lessons to accommodate each and every student.

This can be a costly and time consuming process have to come up with different projects for the different levels of students that I have. I teach the entire school. I have students from mild to severe disabilities and I have to plan accordingly. Some of my students have Autism, Downs Syndrome, MR, CP and many other disabilities. Art is usually their favorite subject, they can be themselves and express themselves. Art boosts their self-confidence and makes them feel like they are accomplishing great feats! I hang up their art work all over the school, leaving on wall space!

My Project

We have not yet tried pottery, therefore I am requesting self hardening clay, sculpting tools and coiling core so that we can explore this area as well! We can make vases and statues, something completely new to my students. I feel that it will be a new experience, since they like tactile objects. The visually impaired students can benefit as well. The books and DVDs will help my students understand art and artists since they are visual learners and need that kind of stimulation.

These special kids need your support in order to learn and experience art in the fullest possible way.

They need these materials desperately in order to create beautiful masterpieces. With your help and support this can be done and they will benefit for years to come. the entire school will be using these materials throughout the year and then some. Since our school is special education we are oven 12 months unlike general ed schools. Please lend a helping hand.
