I am an art teacher in a special needs school. I service the entire school and need enough supplies in order to reach all my students every week. Since we are a special education school we are open all year long, therefore I need art materials twelve months out of the year. I work with children who have mild to severe disabilities. Some of the disabilities I work with are Asperges, downs syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and several others. These kids need to experience art as much if not more than general ed kids. Because of their conditions they will sometimes destroy their project and have to begin a new one, we need extra supplies in order to do so.

I try to come up with fun and interesting projects in order to bring out their creative talents. I have high expectations of my students and they flourish ! We make puppets, we design T shirts, we even have themed parades for different holidays and occasions throughout the year. We are now getting ready for Halloween by making masks and costumes and then for Thanksgiving and so on. We have been on the cover of our local newspaper five times during the past two years, showing off our parades and art work. Visitors to the school are amazed to see all the beautiful artwork plastered all over the hall walls. I do not treat them as special, i treat them as regular kids when it comes to art.

By getting these art materials we can continue to enjoy art and crank out the beautiful art projects. We learn about the different artists such as Picasso, Monet, Kahlo and others and use their influence in our own work. These children are getting a rounded art education. With your kind and generous support we will have the art materials to continue doing so!

Art is essential to the development of these special kids. Some of my students cannot speak, read or write but they can express themselves through their art! They need to continue in the art program in order to grow and flourish. We need your help to supply the art materials needed to continue and grow.
