Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work at a low income school in California. We are working on becoming an International Baccalaureate school focused on creating internationally minded children who are aware of what part they can play in making the world a better place. We study heroes (young and old) and celebrate the heroism within each child who picks up trash, helps a friend, or looks beyond outward differences to see the beauty within each of us.

My kids are extremely needy. We are facing budget cuts again this year, and in order to keep a nurse at our school we had to cut our budget for classroom supplies. I have spent $5,000 of my own money since coming to this school, and I cannot make my rent and get these desperately needed supplies. Research has shown that kids who engage in Art do better in Reading, Writing, and Math. I want my kids to have the opportunities to create, explore, and learn!

Because my school is an IB school, I have the opportunity and responsibility to teach my kids about life all around the world. I strongly feel that the world is a beautifully cultured place. What better way to bring cultures to life than by looking at life though art. I want my students to be able to experiment by trying to replicate the art forms from around the world. I need paint, brushes, watercolors, canvas, photo paper, clay, and a variety of other art supplies that will allow my students to engage in creating art that depicts life from all corners of the Earth.

You can help by donating the materials needed for us to create art within the four walls of our classroom that extends far beyond our community, state, country, and continent. By donating to this project you will be helping my students gain appreciation for life around the world. You will be helping them to truly "SEE" people by allowing these students to attempt to see the world through the eyes of others.
