Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I work with students ranging from kindergarten to grade 3, with developmental, physical, and learning delays as well as medical challenges that make the typical classroom environment too challenging. Even with all of the challenges that they face, my students work hard and develop new skills and learn new concepts every day.
Moderate to severe special education is a world of its own.
Having students from four different grades in the same classroom, working alongside and with each other all day, can make for some interesting difficulties. An example is trying to lead a math group that serves all students needs when one is learning his numbers and another is moving on to double digit addition.
My Project
We work on art every day in my classroom. Students learn to follow directions, practice fine motor and social skills. All of these skills help my students to develop independence and encourage creativity.
All children need art in order to grow and develop!
By providing my students with basic art supplies such as paper, paint rollers and adequate storage for those supplies, they will be better able to work on these important skills. We will use the paper and other supplies to complete step by step art projects that will help them to develop the skill of following visual and verbal directions. This is an important skill for developing long term independence.
The supplies will also be used for creative art projects that will help my students develop their creativity and their ability to make choices and decisions for themselves.
