Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach bilingual Spanish students. They are special needs students with multiple disabilities. Four of the students are non-verbal, one is legally blind, and one is in a wheelchair with limited mobility and is blind. They need a lot of support and different modalities in the classroom in order to learn. All students do not read or write.

My students are my heroes!

They come to school every day and try their best. Although they have many disabilities they are always happy, they aim to please, and they have awesome personalities. They tug at your heartstrings and they love to laugh.

My Project

My students are visual learners. After every lesson or unit plan, we usually do a project with art materials. Most of my students are non-verbal and the three who do speak have limited vocabulary. They are able to express themselves by using art.

My students shine when they do art projects.

Art gives them many different modalities to express themselves and to show what they have learned in the lessons. My students also don't have any writing skills so art lets them say what they want to say.

My students come from low-income families and I am pretty sure that they don't have any art materials at home. That means that they haven't been doing art since the school closed. My love art and I am sure that they miss it very much.
