My Students

The Art Colony in our school consists of twenty-five students ranging from second grade to sixth grade who meet after school to develop and practice art techniques.

Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, in a primarily working class, inner-city neighborhood, my students do not have easy access to art classes.

Also, coming from families where parents may be working multiple jobs and struggling to meet everyday needs, my students may find that it is difficult to store and preserve the art pieces that they have created.

My students need to be able create portfolios of their best work to prepare themselves to compete for slots in art programs. Also, this will allow them to see themselves as professional artists.

My Project

Currently, the Art Colony Students are creating drawings, paintings, collages, and other forms of art. Their work comes in various shapes and sizes.

They need the Blick Presentation Books because they are being asked to create portfolios of their best work.

Many of the Art Colony students will need to show portfolios of their best work at programs such as the our school district’s gifted demonstration.

Learning to select their best work and store and display it is a skill and practice that our young artists need to develop.

Having a presentation book for their portfolios will help Art Colony students see themselves as professional artists.
