This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are extremely imaginative, kind, helpful, and creative. However, with a strained budget in a Title 1 school, where we are struggling to meet even the number of required teachers let alone materials, access to quality and variety of materials that students in more affluent schools and neighborhoods would typically have is challenging to provide.

But where there's a will, there's a way.

My students live in unpredictability. There is a lot of change and instability that they face in their day to day lives. As a small school, we do our best to support this, but their arts classes are especially unpredictable due to programming and undefined budgets. Outside funding options, such as Donor's Choose and Materials for the Arts, make big impacts in our classrooms because of these constraints.

My students love tactile experiences and getting to work with materials that "real artists" use in their work. The more skills and actual art-making items they are introduced to, the more engaged they become. With your help, we look forward to being equipped with the tools and materials they deserve to have.

My Project

This is the 2nd year that our school's Art Club is running, which includes students ranging from grades 7-12. They have chosen to start the year off focusing on recycling and sustainability, as our cafeteria has finally begun recycling, but our classrooms have not! We need recycling receptacles and positive messages motivating students to participate in sustainable activities like recycling. Art Club has drafted 3 plans: one painted mural, one 3D recycled material installation, and a series of painted recycling bins to help the initiative. But without any funding, we need your help!

The paint and bins from this supply list will go a long way for Art Club's projects.

We already have polytab (for murals), special adhesives, brushes, and some cleaning supplies to use all bought from bake-sale fundraising. But quality, lasting painting supplies are expensive, and it seems recycling receptacles are not the cheapest either. The supplies requested will make a huge impact on what students will be able to do. The paint will last both a painted mural and go a long way on the recycling bins, as will the gesso, while the bins themselves will put one bin in almost each classroom -a start for recycling.

Please help these students support not only their school, but their environment!
