Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The most important lesson I try to impart to my kids in their art class is not to worry about being the best artist. It's more important that they try their best. I'm not much of an artist myself, so I try to drive that point home by drawing and coloring alongside them, with mixed results. :-)

My students are all in 6th grade, and are always eager to give it their best shot.

My number one goal is for them to have fun and try their best. Everyone is talented in their own way, and they've all been great about sharing their supplies with each other, especially when some students might be unable to pay for their own supplies.

My Project

Officially I'm an English teacher rather than an actual art teacher (can't draw to save my life!), but just like I teach my kids I give it my best shot. ;-) I always try to draw with them and provide them with sketches and ideas that they can draw fairly easily. As supplies are running a little low, I would love to not only provide them with more pencils, markers and paper, but also coloring books, art kits and instructional guides so that I can provide them with some guidelines to fine tune their skills. The kits and guidebooks can offer tips and instructions that I might not know about otherwise.

The kids who are well on their way to being great artists will benefit from the additional drawing and coloring supplies.

Those who need a little more help will greatly appreciate some sketches, guides and kits to give them a little more assistance with their creations.
