My Students

I am a traveling art teacher in a Title One School with over 1000 students in our building. I would like to connect my program to the visual blueprints and common core, but find it difficult with the lack of art materials I have. Art is integrated in all core subjects through touch.

My students show a lot of promise and are eager to learn.

It's not always easy for them to grasp an idea or concept through critical thinking. Art has helped reach them and by visually seeing and making something that ties into the subject at hand is what we need, to get them to connect. If we had some books with projects and ideas, it would help inspire them through choice and differentiation.

My Project

I am seeking art books that show how to make the classroom into centers of choice. Although I am a traveling art teacher without a classroom, I still can differentiate my projects. We need ideas and strategies that hit upon drawing, painting and mixed media. These books were discussed through a professional development that I attended, to help our art students through choice projects. The only way to get these books is through a grant.

A choice based art program is more rigorous then a teacher directed class.

I'm trying to open my students minds and creative juices and to tie it into what their other teachers are teaching them. I'm hoping to teach them how to make the connection through art, and I need to plan. These books will become my curriculum. My students have learning disabilities and really do well through hands on projects as well as choice made activities. We thank you for reading our project.
