Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are creative and fun but many are lower level readers. I am looking to increase their exposure to books and reading by focusing on fun art making projects, STEAM projects and other areas that the students might not be exposed to otherwise.

Students will discover and recreate some of Leonardo DiVini’s inventions, learn about American Sign Language through art, and develop fine motor skills while learning to read and follow directions for origami.

All of these hands-on activities incorporate reading and following directions while allowing creativity and freedom of expression at the same time.

Students will also be practicing mindful exercises through coloring and then be encouraged to create their own art using some of the same techniques and patterns colored.

These activities are a fun and safe way for students who are less apt to read a book to learn to enjoy books and reading while increasing their own reading levels and language skills. The activities that involve following directions will help to build life skills needed for not only school, but also their future employment as well as personal lives.
