My students need watercolors, paper, watercolors and more for a variety of art projects. We combine art with nature and use different media to interpret the natural world around us in these beautiful mountains.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are special because they live in an isolated little town in the Sierra Nevada where they have learned to appreciate the strength of community and to the importance of sustaining their natural environment so that it can continue to sustain their families for years to come. What they lack in material possessions, they certainly make up in heart, spirit, perseverance and creativity.
My students have grown up being taught in multi grade classrooms.
They have benefited from helping the younger ones and having many older children to guide them when they are new to something. During recess, grade level does not determine who plays together - it is a very healthy environment.
Unfortunately, our small school with multi-grade classrooms has few supplies in the classroom, and our district office and biggest town is an hour away. These bright and curious children would greatly benefit from donations of academic and art supplies.
My Project
My 6-12 grade students learn all about art and nature through an elective I have created which combines environmental education, plant science and visual art. Students experience the nature around them on our once a week Nature Day, when we do outdoor activities. Other parts of the week, we research the natural elements we have found and answer the questions that present themselves.
We use a variety of art materials to incorporate nature into our art.
We have photographed nature collages, sketched botanical drawings and written about native plants.
Every nature project is researched, rendered artistically and then written about and published on student blogs. Students love this part of the day!
