My Students

"The arts, it has been said, cannot change the world, but they may change human beings who might change the world." -Maxine Greene My students enjoy engaging in the arts! The art table is often surrounded with students, drawing pictures, creating paper bags, necklaces, and more!

My pre-k students are 4 and 5 year olds who are eager to learn, explore and engage with materials.

They love going to the art center, to draw, paint and create things from their imagination. They have always shown persistence, dedication and a sense of pride in their creations. Our school is currently serving Pre-Kindergarten to 3rd grade. Each year we will add a grade until 8th grade. We have an amazing student body, and have parents, teachers, and administrative staff that truly care about children.

My Project

My students will use these art materials on a daily basis. Crayola thick and thin markers are a favorite! The children make purposeful choices when deciding which marker to use when drawing. For example, the thin markers allow the children to include small details in their drawing. High quality watercolors and watercolor paper will allow my student to use watercolors without tearing the paper. Pebbles, stones, mosaic tiles and fabric scraps are some materials that will support creative thinking and imagination. These materials are loose parts, that provide students an unlimited possibilities of thinking and creating. The resources can be used for art projects and can also be used to explore colors, patterns, and to enhance pretend play. For example, pebbles placed in the water table, may encourage children to create a path or a bridge, provoking problem solving and imagination.

These resources will help to support imagination and creativity.

As Maxine Greene said in the previous quote, art can change people, who may potentially change the world. Artistic experiences encourage creative thinking and seeing things in new perspectives. Opportunities to engage in artistic experiences may likely prepare children to be innovative thinkers and problem solves in society.
