My Students

We want to reach out to our community and share all the wonderful things we are learning about places around the world!

My students attend a Title I school in Brooklyn.

They all come from below average income homes. They often tell me they have never been anywhere in the city, let alone the world. They all eat school lunch and barely have enough to pay for school trips. I have been able to bring them to these places through classroom lessons. You would be amazed at all they have learned and how interested they are in Social Studies! They are so energetic and would love to share their love of new countries with seniors who are also unable to travel.

My Project

I am requesting various art supplies for my students. Poster boards will be created of several countries around the world that we have learned about this school year. My 3rd graders have focused on the communities of other countries and we would like to share that with our own community in Brooklyn. The posters will be displayed at our local senior center, and we will leave them there for the seniors to enjoy. Students will use markers and construction paper to create travel brochures of each community around the world. Maps will be displayed as will laminated materials passed out to the seniors for the students' presentations. I would like to keep the laminated made travel displays for my future third graders. Also, students will be able to create passports for seniors the day of our visit. We will need tape and crayons to make passports. Hopefully we will be able to take pictures for the seniors and send them to the center at a later time.

If all goes well my students at the senior center will learn how important it is to give back to their community.

By sharing all they have learned about the world, they will take this with them for the rest of their careers as students. As my students are between the ages 8-9, they are very impressionable of the people around them and can learn so much from taking part in this excursion. My students need to share on a daily basis, and sharing to seniors and the community would mean so much!
