My Students

I have a wonderful class of 20 students in a public school in Buffalo. Most of these students are underprivileged and come from poverty. Many students can not afford basic school supplies and I do what I can to provide them with these materials.

I have over five different languages spoken in my class, and over 30 different languages spoken in our school.

Many students have just come to America and many are coming from war torn countries and refugee camps. It is challenging to teach these students who speak limited to no English, but it is also very rewarding.

My Project

Kindergarten students learn best by being actively involved. Learning areas allow a very small group of students to engage in reading, writing and math activities. The materials that I have chosen include learning areas that can be differentiated to meet the many learning styles and abilities of the class.

Learning areas encourage independent work behaviors.

The word building area will help my kindergarten students use what they have learned about letter sounds to form words. The math area will help the students to practice their math skills in an engaging way. The magnetic action is fun as well as self-checking.

I have also requested rewards for my students as they respond well to positive reinforcement. These rewards help to enhance the behavior modification system that is used in the classroom. The materials that are included in this project will be a rewarding and fun for my students!
