Ardu-In Or Ardu-Out?

My students need enough Arduinos and peripherals to be able to work in pairs in the classroom. Breadboards and LilyPads work with the Arduinos to create circuits.

My Students

We live in a time when it's imperative that children understand how the technology that they use, works. Let's see a light bulb go off when they learn how to program Arduinos!

My students don't come from a background where things like Arduino programming (or any programming) are readily available to them at home.

My high risk students need exposure to the pathways to careers of the future. Our school is small and like a family, and the more that I can provide my kids with the tools they need, the better off they will be.

My Project

My vision for these materials is that the children will create circuits, learn about circuits and electronics. Additionally, I want them to be able to learn how to program something to do what they want it to do. I want them to be creators instead of end users. I also want them to use the LilyPads to be able to create interactive clothing and art. Students today are not aware of how easy it can be to control their "virtual" environment. By meshing art and technology, I hope to instill creativity and problem solving in a fun medium with a tangible end product. My students need enough Arduinos and peripherals to be able to work in pairs in the classroom. Breadboards and LilyPads work with the Arduinos to create circuits. In doing so, I hope to instill a desire to be self-motivated learners who wish to tackle the problems of their communities - both local and global.

So many in our society use technology, but don't understand how it works.

The kids all have smartphones and use apps, and I want them to take control of their environment. I want them to be able to solve problems by thinking creatively, problem solving, and then creating!!
