Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in my highschool are starting a second component to the hydroponics course. We are starting an aquaponics course in my school. The students are so excited to have some hands on learning and creating skills for the future. Students will learn to setup aquarium systems, hard scape, aqua scape, and plant an aquarium and create balance. Then once the systems are stabilized we will starting growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers from the systems that we will share with the school. We also plan on breeding the fish and creating skills that they can bring into the future.

My students have only been exposed to science courses that don’t give them any skills.

We are trying to capture their love for inquiry and nature since so many New York students forget to think about their connection to earth. We want to help students become well rounded and consider the importance of their decisions on the earth. How can we work with earth to produce more sustainable farming practices. This also helps the students end their day with working with animals and caring for the systems. Students will work in groups to establish their own ecosystems and chose of plants. The students stated it helps them end the day in a calm state that really helps them balance their day.
