My students discover the world of Marine Science in our classroom by getting into the field and getting wet! We travel to the local beach area to study the marine environment and collect a species for our classroom. They love to flip over rocks, pull a seine net or a plankton net and find marine organisms. This year due to distance learning and classroom restrictions we will not be able to travel to the local marine ecosystems. Our classroom has many amazing tanks and students will be setting up a classroom tank to maintain their marine ecosystem here at school. Those at home will not have the hands on experience without the project.
My Project
This project is designed to allow the students who opted for at home learning to create a mini ecosystem at home and learn first hand about the aquaponics system we have in the classroom. Since they have opted to stay home and learn virtually, they will not be able to help maintain our classroom aquaponics system in person. Sending them home with a mini system will help better connect them to the classroom and allow them to experience, touch and do some of the same things we will be doing in class, but safely at home instead.
