My Students

I teach a diverse kindergarten class. My students come from all different cultures, and several of the students at our school have immigrated from other countries and are learning to speak English. Many of my students have not attended preschool, and are attending school for the first time when they walk into my kindergarten classroom.

My students come from many different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common- they love school and learning new things!

My energetic young students love reading, writing, and playing together each day. Although they may not have been exposed to many literacy concepts before they came to kindergarten, I want them to leave my classroom with a solid foundation in literacy and a true love for learning.

My Project

My students love reading and listening to books, and it would be so exciting for them to have new books to explore in our classroom that reflect their diverse families and cultures. I want all of my students to be able to see their lives and cultures represented in the books we read in class. I also want my students to be exposed to different cultures and traditions from all around the world. Adding 10 new multicultural books into our kindergarten classroom will benefit all of my students!

I teach a diverse kindergarten class, and am hoping to bring more diverse books and diverse toys into my classroom to help students appreciate that diversity.

In addition to reading, play is an important part of our kindergarten day and helps students develop many social skills. Often my students will use the blocks in our classroom to build pretend houses and villages, but we have no play people to live in them! With these sets of play people, my students can be engaged in creative pretend play in the classroom and develop their language skills and vocabulary at the same time. These particular sets of play people are perfect for my diverse classroom, since they include different multicultural families, dolls with disabilities, and children from around the world.
