My Students

My school currently serves approximately 350 students in grades 6-8. My students come from homes with range from farms to public housing and everything in between. Most are from economically disadvantaged homes, as 100% of our students receive a free breakfast, lunch, and after school dinner.

Our motto here is that we are a "family." The students and staff alike have bought into this message of respect and compassion.

We provide them with a safe learning environment and try to meet each and every student's academic and personal needs. We feel if they are safe and comfortable, there are no limits to what they can achieve.

Our students have overcome many hardships by the time they come to us in the eighth grade. As a teacher, you set out to make a difference thinking you have something to offer your students, when in reality, it is often the students that do the most teaching.

My Project

My students will use the Apple Macbook with protective case to create skits to create a deeper learning of the topics they are learning in class. These videos will be available to their entire grade to view for support both during class and at home. This laptop will allow them to create how-to videos, common misconceptions and mistakes, and student explanations on current math topics. By creating original content and writing skits, students are given some ownership and responsibility in math class. This will also allow students who are very creative to apply their skills to a class where they may not typically get to show their talent.
