This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our elementary school is located in SE Washington, DC, where 98 percent of all students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and free breakfast; and 25 percent of all students receive special education services. All students with or without Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) are provided a positive learning environment that addresses both their academic and social-emotional needs as well as embraces their strengths; while giving them a sense of belonging.
Most of our students have academic challenges in either reading and/or mathematics or have behavioral challenges; and will benefit tremendously from these Apple iPads, which will be placed in a learning station that students will rotate through on a daily basis.
It should be noted that all of our students are amazing, full of energy, and enthusiastic about learning! They come to school ready to learn something new and have so much opportunity for growth, and that’s why it’s important to provide them with quality resources.
All of my students are returning back to school excited to learn; and filled with lots of enthusiasm. One of their greatest joys in the classroom will be completing both Lexia and ST Math, both computer-based reading and math interventions that support our students' academic learning. For that reason, my students and I would welcome the addition of Apple iPads to our classroom. It is commonly held that "classroom technology can open new worlds for all students, but especially those from less advantaged communities." These Apple iPads will be placed in a learning station; and students will rotate in and out of this station daily.
