My Project

This year, I had four Sections of students sign up to take AP Government and Politics. Many are not your "typical" AP students, but all have hung in there and are now starting their multi-layered capstone Civic Engagement Project. Students chose a different topic from a broad range of current social issues and are diving into research now in order to write a well-constructed, white paper and produce a presentation for staff and community partners.

Most are really into their topics and I want to capitalize on that passion and take this opportunity to get engaging BOOKS specifically related to their projects, into their hands, while they continue researching on the Internet.

My list is too long to mention each title, but they match up with their topics nicely, from Evicted to Mistrial, Fast Food Nation to Under the Skin and beyond, each book relates directly to a student's research. Our small library has a very small non-fiction section and none of these titles. This project will create a classroom library that will serve not only this year's students, but also students for years to come.
