Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At the end of the school year I want students to be very proud of themselves, after they have earned a passing mark on the AP exam. These books will help them to reach that goal.

The majority of my students are in the Title One Program for the free or reduced priced meal.

They are all Hispanics and both parents are working full time, and one or both of them do not speak English fluently. The majority are first-generation students whose home language is not English and who have been schooled primarily in the United States. Very few of them have recently arrived from a Spanish speaking country. Our High School is the oldest high school in the west San Fernando Valley. It opened with 14 students and 3 teachers on October 4, 1914. Now it serves more than 1400 students. The majority of Canoga park students are Latinos which is about 83%, Whites make up about 7% of the student body, and the rest is made of African Americans, Asians and other.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting provide strategies and tips to build communicative and interpretative abilities. These books provide exercises for students to practice and master the language in different skill areas and it provides two complete practice exams to simulate the actual testing experience. My students will be able to utilize the books to practice reading, listening, comprehension and writing skills that will prepare them for the AP exam. They will also learn strategies that will prepare them to be successful in the AP exam. There is no doubt in my mind that the books will provide the support that they need to be obtain a 5 on the test because not only it provides the practice necessary, but also provides strategies to be used in every section of the exam.

This project will make a difference because it will provide the tools to prepare the students to be successful in the AP exam.

Many of my students are planning on going to a University and by passing this exam they will earn credits. As a result, they will save money and time. But when my students pass the exam, it will show how determined they are, and it will give them a sense of accomplishment.
