Our school is a rural school within a low socio-economic community in Indiana. I feel fortunate to be able to teach high school biology and earth/space science for grades 9-12.

While looking for ways to challenge our students, I asked our school administrators if they would offer advanced placement biology to our students next year. The administrators agreed, but they informed me that there is no money in the budget to finance the course. This means no textbooks and no supplies. I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity, but at the same time I feel overwhelmed with the lack of financial support from my school corporation. They're good people, it's just that they don't have the money.

AP Biology is a course offered by the CollegeBoard advanced placement program and is governed by a strict curriculum that requires teachers to submit a syllabus audit. In addition, the curriculum requires students to complete a set of 12 AP laboratories. For this course, I am only asking for laboratory materials so that our students may be able to complete the laboratory requirement. At this time, the laboratories far exceed the donation allowed by DonorsChoose.org so I am only requesting a laboratory set refill.

With your help, you will make it possible for my students to find success in a challenging but rewarding new course at our school. I hope that this course will set precedence for future advanced placement courses at our high school. Our students are not afforded many of these opportunities. Your assistance will ensure that they have an opportunity to compete with other students at the college level.
