Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach in a low income community where many of my students lived at poverty levels before covid and the pandemic has further devastated their households. Even though many of them are struggling to acquire resources for their own families during this time they still have an immense interest in helping those less fortunate in any way that they can.

My students amaze me on a daily basis because they are so resilient and resolute; every obstacle in front of them is used to fuel their dream, to build an equitable world.

My Project

Engaging students during distance learning is a challenge. I want to make sure that my students are engaged but more importantly that their learning is meaningful.

I want students to engage in an Antiracist book study thru my class.

Students will get to pick books based on their interest. Throughout the semester students will meet with groups to discuss their book and in the end create a group project that will be presented to their classmates.

I know that access to these books will be a challenge and some will not be able to find a copy in their local library, I want to have copies available so that I can supply students.
