Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Orwell quoted, "And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed-if all records told the same tale-then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'"

Hence why my students, after reading "1984", became increasingly interested in reading more dystopian novels to a point when the entire class all suggested that we read Suzanne Collins' "Hunger Games".

Your donation would provide each of my students a copy of "Hunger Games", which would kick-start a unit on dystopia. ABC Family is funding half of all projects that are student-initiated. My students have been asking to read this novel for quite some time now and I am excited over the prospect of being able to introduce this novel in class. It will also be used after school in our school safety anti bullying club.

My Project

I teach at a school in a bind to purchase school supplies and books for our students due to severe budget cuts. My students, all seniors in high school, all receive free or reduced lunch and are in a bind to purchase books for themselves. Their thirst for knowledge has me bringing in books from home, since they are now all interested in dystopian science fiction novels.

Please do not let the burden of budget cuts ruin my students' chances of this fantastic learning opportunity!

As seniors in high school, these students should be able to act as knowledgeable citizens of the world--it is my dream that this club serves that purpose. Also help us enrich our after school anti bullying club.
