This is my third year teaching at a hard to staff school in Brooklyn, New York. It's been a wonderful experience for me and each day I learn so very much. This year I am teaching first grade. I received a Masters degree in 2002 and was then accepted at Teachers college to work on a graduate degree in Anthropology and Education. I am five courses short of completing the course work. Through this fascinating program in Anthropology and Education I was able to gain exposure of the world and the people in it. I was able to find interesting and creative ways to expose youngsters to the world and all the fascinating things in it, such as tribal peoples, cultural events around the world, fossils, extinct creatures and Egypt's pyramids. I work in an environment where the children are rarely exposed to museums and interesting books on people and places. I would like to expose the children in my classroom to the world and the people that live in it. Teaching children about our world is difficult without the right books and materials. I would like to help the children better understand their world through film, literature, maps and some hands on materials such as fossils. I feel these items will deepen the children's understanding of themselves and others in this world. The children of class 1-103 would greatly appreciate your assistance in gaining the materials they might need to sharpen their knowledge of themselves the world around them. Also we do not have any games in our classroom and would love to receive a few if possible. We thank you for your support and look forward to hearing from you.
