Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I see students from various backgrounds with equally corresponding needs. Over the last few years school counselors have seen a rise in mental illness among their students, one just has to watch the news to see these unprecedented issues.

This new age of technological advances has had a knock on affect to the academic, social and emotional needs of our students.

Children, today, are not only having to navigate through typical developmental occurrences, but they have the added burdens associated with social media. This coupled with mental illness and the pressures of academia can make daily life extremely strenuous for some.

In an effort to "do something about it" (as I would say to my students), attending this renown conference will equip me with the necessary knowledge and tools to better serve the needs of my students.

My Project

I am requesting assistance with attending the annual American School Counseling Association Conference in Los Angeles. I am a 2nd year middle school counselor in Houston, Texas.

This year was an especially challenging year for all of us in Houston, owing to the aftermath of Harvey.

Although, the community pulled together and helped in any which way it could, I feel I could have done so much more to support my students and fellow staff members.

I welcome the opportunity to network with my peers and add to my "tool kit" of counseling resources. This valuable information will be presented by my peers, who have a collective wealth of experience from tried and tested methods. This inestimable expertise cannot be presented or received in any other form.
