My Project

Let's face it, low test scores get us all down. While I am not an English teacher, I, being a history teacher, always tell the kids that I am a tested subject because I teach ELA, just non-fiction. I have my students reading and analyzing primary sources from early American history weekly. However, I am lacking the basic supplies needed for my students to be successful. Through no fault of their own, my school, being Title I, and my students, coming from homes who struggle financially, do not always have the essentials needed to practice for but ultimately TRIUMP on standardized tests.

Annotation practice is essential in preparing for standardized tests because it enhances comprehension, critical thinking, and retention of information.

When students annotate, they actively engage with the text, marking important points, making connections, and asking questions. This process not only aids in understanding the material but also reinforces memory recall. Moreover, annotations serve as valuable study aids, providing a personalized roadmap of key concepts and insights. By regularly practicing annotation, students develop vital skills such as close reading, analysis, and synthesis, which are crucial for success in standardized tests where comprehension and interpretation are paramount. Ultimately, annotation practice not only prepares students for the specific content of the test but also equips them with lifelong learning strategies that can be applied across various academic contexts.

My students are because they are unique! Each student brings a distinct set of experiences, perspectives, and strengths to the classroom, enriching the learning environment in profound ways. Their diversity fosters a dynamic exchange of ideas and encourages empathy, understanding, and respect for one another. Their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning fuel a vibrant atmosphere where exploration and discovery thrive! I am so proud to be their teacher!
