Animation is a 'STEAM' sport based on imagination.
My students need these materials to explore coding and movie making through Lego Movie Maker during our STEAM club. They will use the lego building materials to create a movie picture on their Ipad mini.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our students at Central Elementary are going to change the world for the better. They are innovative, loving, intelligent, generous, kind, and are very eager to be presented STEAM based challenges. Our school is a Title 1 school filled with outstanding thinkers but much poverty! Our school is known for being the "mighty" comets. Central Elementary is home to 425 students young fives through fifth grade. The amount of collaboration and innovation that occurs due to their excitement for learning is inspiring.
This project is for our Mulit-grade STEAM club that meets before school for those enthusiastic students who are ready to get their hands dirty and minds working!
This club is open to anyone in the school who would like to sign up Y5-5th. Last school year we had over 130 students. Everything that our students participate in is very hands on, builds critical thinkers/ problem solvers and is creative.
We believe that consistent exposure to a makerspace community atmosphere will help our students develop valuable life skills like logical reasoning, algorithmic thinking, collaboration, structured problem solving, communication skills, and creativity!
My Project
My students might be the next Stephen Spielberg or Charles Schultz. With lego movie maker and other movie maker apps, my STEAM students can put on the directors hat to create animated short films or personalized comic strips. Who knows what's hiding inside our students imagination if we don't give them every opportunity to show it.
Animation gets kids creating in physical space rather than just spending time with their devices.
This form of Stop Motion animation is a great way to get modern kids to slow down and pay attention to details. Students have to put a lot of thought power and problem solving into making it successful.
Using lego's to create animation will expose students to a deeper understanding and appreciation of what goes into animating. Engineering skills and real world problem solving skills will be used to create innovative scenes that move in a group setting.
