Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have always been fascinated with the world and technology of animation. When it comes to computers, they can't get enough. So, what better way to increase their love of literacy than to build a library of books that they will be begging to read?

I teach in Nevada at an inner city Magnet school that specializes in math, science, and technology.

Although we have a number of magnet students from all over the city, the majority (70%) of our students are Hispanic and from low income households. We also have a large percentage of English language learners, who struggle with English Literacy. I teach an elective technology course that is equally available to both magnet and zoned students.

My Project

I would like to build a rich, vibrant library that supports my curriculum. This, in turn will help to encourage the students to use self expression through digital storytelling and multimedia based projects. The students need to spend time reading in all classes and should have enough books available that they are inspired to learn and explore topics that interest them in ways other than Internet searches. These books will be used both for independent reading and research, as well as, to help develop engaging lessons.

Books will never go out of style!

I would like to create a complete environment of learning for my students. Please help bring our bookshelves to life with the amazing and relevant books on this list.
