This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are so curious and eager to improve their community! They also have a love and passion for animals! They realized that people and animals are not living in harmony because our neighborhoods are designed to only think about human inhabitants. They felt that the living conditions for animals in our neighborhood could be improved. They posed a question to one another, "How do we build a community that is a safe home for all inhabitants, humans and animals?". They strongly believe that we share space with the animals in our community, and we need to demonstrate empathy for those animals. Cohabitation starts with the choices we as humans make!
Students brainstormed various animals within our urban community and realized that there was an opportunity to provide more for them in order to accommodate their needs and survival.
They realized that our community does not have enough flowers for pollinators. Therefore, planting more would not only beautify the school grounds but also help the butterflies and bees pollinate. They also felt providing a safe and protected location for birds in the community would be beneficial as well!
Please help our students accomplish their dream of accommodating animals in our community! Help them make their voices heard! We would greatly appreciate it!
