My Students

My third grade is comprised of 24 extraordinary students who are eager to learn and love to explore new ideas from different disciplines. Most of them are from Hispanic and African American descent and are classified as low-income status families. Over 93% of them qualify or receive free lunch. They are part of Maritime Magnet school, and they love learning things with hands-on experience. We've had a pleasure of learning and researching about different animal habitats and their different characteristics. For their extension for animal unit research, it will be a wonderful opportunity for them to connect their knowledge with the real-time exploration of the animal life at the LA Zoo's "Zoo School" program.

Although they are in difficult circumstances, but they come to school with positive learning attitudes to succeed as independent learners.

However, due to their dire economic and social conditions, most of my students still struggle in their academic growth. My class loves science and what it curtails. They love to touch, see, and feel what they are learning about, while they absorb the knowledge coming from their experiences. For this reason, I would like to take my students to the LA Zoo.

My Project

This trip will be an exciting opportunity for my students to learn about the diverse animal life and its connection to all living things on earth. Students will get to have an interactive experience with the docent led tours and explore animal life by attending their "Zoo School" program. They will learn about nurturing and preserving Wildlife through a variety of fun, inspiring, and engaging programs.

My students will explore and contemplate on why we need to protect our animals and other living things on earth.

They will discuss topic such as "Why a healthy ecological balance on this earth, animals, plants and marine species are necessary for human lives." They will understand that all living things contribute to the ecosystem in its own special way. They will even explore what happens when the natural habitats of animals and plants gets destroyed by humans. After exploring the topic through textbooks, videos, and other educational resources, my students will enjoy absorbing and synthesizing their information through real life experience.
