Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need to go to the Alley Pond Environmental Center to see and touch baby animals and learn how they survive.

My second grade students have made tremendous growth this year.

They have been working hard to learn about the world around them through books and videos. They have been learning to write longer stories. They are so proud of the great strides they are making. We have done so much work in the classroom-its time for them to take their knowledge out in the world!

My school is located in a high-poverty area and is filled with amazing students that face many challenges, both at home and in school. Many will not have opportunities to visit museums and other places such as the Alley Pond Environmental Center to enrich their learning.

While they all express an eagerness to learn, my students with special needs experience challenges that make it more difficult for them to reach their fullest potential using just books and videos.

My Project

Are all animal babies born and raised the same way? This trip will introduce my students to the developmental differences and similarities amongst mammals, birds and reptiles. On this trip, students will be able touch the animals they are learning about. Brave ones will even be able to hold them.

"I held a snake today!" That is what some of my brave students will tell their families after this trip.

Many students visit zoos, but what makes this experience special is the trained instructors that teach about the animals to each class, as well as the ability for students to touch and hold each animal they learn about.

Students will have opportunities to write about their experiences, and to complete an art project to extend their learning.

Every student who has gone on this field trip talks about it as the highlight of their year. I hope you will be willing to help this current class get the opportunity to go.
