I teach 8th grade English at a low income, inner city school. The majority of the student population receives free and reduced lunch and have learning disabilities.

I would like 40 copies of the novel, Nothing but the Truth by Avi. While I am willing to beg and plead with parents to purchase this outstanding novel, it is not likely that my students will get it. This is an excellent novel that is not only riveting, but also cross-curricular. It empowers students yet sends a powerful message about taking ownership and peer pressure. Parents agree that the themes are important but they just can't afford to invest in a book when other things take priority. So what happens is I end up with half of my students investing and the other half unprepared.

So that's where you come into the equation. If I had a classroom set of the novel, I wouldn't have to beg parents, my students wouldn't be ashamed of the lack of funds in the household, and everybody will read a novel that will likely change the way they view the First Amendment. A win/win situation.

By purchasing this classroom set of novels, you will open the doors of communication, classroom discussions, persuasive essays and debates that will make our government proud. The novel is that rich. My students will definitely be heard because they will have much to say about the controversial issues address in this novel.
