My Students

My students attend a K-8th grade public school in a high poverty community in New Jersey that has no budget for musical materials.

Four years ago, our school was given 30 Fender guitars by Little Kids Rock and I can say with confidence that no other 30 guitars have been played so often and with so much love and determination.

My Project

If my students receive this week long workshop with a veteran jazz musician and music educator, they will benefit from learning in a hands-on way about a type of music they have expressed a lot of curiosity about. They will be using their guitars and applying their prior knowledge while working with a masterful teacher who will teach them the basics of playing as a jazz ensemble. The workshop will culminate in a performance for the school and community.

Donations to this project will be directly meeting the needs of inner city kids who asked to learn to play jazz.

They have a true desire to become stronger musicians and this workshop would immerse them in an exciting new world and end in a performance that would allow the students to shine for their friends and family.
