Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Do not be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week's value out of a year while another man gets a full year's value out of a week." -Charles Richards

Teaching math to a diverse group of students from all over the world with different English language skills might sound like a difficult task.

However, to me, it is the perfect opportunity to blend in many different cultures, background knowledge, experiences and thinking skills to explore higher order thinking problems in our sixth grade math class. It is a great opportunity for my English speaking students to teach their non-English speaking peers the language and previously learned skills. While it also gives our newcomers the chance to share a world out of our reach; full of culture, beautiful languages, customs and different learning strategies. Our newcomers get excited when we include their cultures in our projects while working together to choose the most appropriate strategy to find the solution of problems. Every day is a learning experience in our diverse school. We have created a welcoming community where we learn from each other and share our cultural backgrounds with pride.

My Project

Our classroom is full of active learning where students engage in different activities that encourage collaboration and imagination. Therefore wasting time trying to find and organize materials, clean spaces and connect technological devices should not interrupt our learning experience. However this a very difficult task due to time. Many days, I go home after sunset because I have spent so much time organizing and preparing the learning environment for the next day. I see a classroom as a theater stage which should be ready for every production. I have come to the conclusion that the requested materials will solve our problem. A rolling cart will provide a place to storage our projector, laptop, and document camera. The plastic containers will help us to organize our materials. The electric laminator and pouches will enable us to create graphic organizers and label center materials. The class stapler will save us time as our current cheap staplers get constantly jammed. Finally, I have requested a set of paper size plastic filing folders to organize our daily assignments.

Your donation will make a big difference in our students who learn a lot from each other when there is no distraction.

An organized classroom opens doors to unforgettable learning experiences. You will impact the life of our future professionals. My students will take ownership of their learning experiences by having necessary materials accessible and well organized in our fully equipped classroom. We are very excited to open our door to people who want to be part of our colorful classroom.
