My Students

We have an awesome preschool program on my campus in its third year and require essential materials to provide a quality classroom experience. Specifically, for this project, we hope to collect materials that will help children keep their school supplies, P.E. equipment, and musical instruments organized and easy to access.

This inclusive preschool program is called ETK/PCC, which stands for Expanded Transitional Kindergarten/Preschool Collaborative Classroom.

It includes eight students with disabilities and sixteen students without disabilities. This is an innovative preschool model where students with special needs learn, play, and grow alongside their typically-developing peers. Research has shown time and time again that these inclusive classrooms are beneficial to both students with and without disabilities, while building a culture of compassion, acceptance, and friendships without boundaries.

We are a Title l school, a term that many may have heard about but may not fully understand. Title l is the nation's oldest and largest federally funded program that provides funds to at-risk students living at or near poverty. Title l aims to bridge the gap between low-income students and other students. While my school has benefitted from Title l funds, many other needs go unmet, and we need additional support.

My Project

Preschool children require lots of fun, educational materials including musical instruments, P.E, equipment, art supplies, and toys, in order to develop all the skills they need to prepare for kindergarten. They also need to be able to access these materials easily and frequently throughout the school day. That's where clear containers come into play!

My students will be able to use these clear containers to access classroom materials independently.

They will be able to find their own activity materials, manipulatives, and other classroom items so as to keep our classroom organized, to maintain expectations of self-regulation, and to further their own learning.

Children find it easier to learn, follow classroom expectations, and maintain attention when their classroom environment is free of clutter and everything has its place. They will become more productive classroom community members as they learn to clean up after themselves and return items to their designated places. Having clear storage containers will play a big role in creating and maintaining an organized classroom.
