Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school with a limited amount of English, throughout the school year I try to implement a variety of fun and exciting themes to engage them in language.

I teach pre-school in a low socio-economic area.

Most of my students have very limited language when they enter into the classroom setting. Upon entering school they have had limited exposure to books and vocabulary in English. Due to their limited language, engaging them requires hands on activities and visuals.

My Project

I am requesting age appropriate Ocean themed books, magnifying glasses and Ocean themed activities which can be incorporated into our Unit on Oceans. Through my years of teaching I have learned that although few things are universal in teaching, all kids benefit from and love read aloud and hands on activities. In the previously stated activities, children are not faced with the challenges of trying to communicate, they are simply absorbing the information and participating by choice.

My project is very important because it will allow all my students to learn more about the Ocean and ocean animals and it will allow students to build background on a topic they all find fascinating.

In addition, Pre-school students will be having fun, learning English and engaging in activities which they truly enjoy.
