Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend school in the inner city amidst an industrial neighborhood where poverty, gang violence, and high school drop out rates are prevalent. Although some of my students face hardships, they come to class with a great attitude and an excitement to learn and express themselves daily.

I have a B.A.

in Child development and have been an elementary school teacher for fifteen years. I've learned that every day there's something new not only for the students but also for the teacher. I'm always looking for new ideas to teach in my daily curriculum and new ways to grow as an educator. I am constantly looking for ways to improve my skills by attending professional developments and going online to grow individually and on the professional level.

My Project

I am requesting a mini ipad 2 to use when attending professional development workshops. I would be able to use the mini ipad 2 in online workshops and when attending physical workshops. I'm requesting a cover and 2 year protection to protect it when traveling to workshops. With the new Common Core standards being implemented, there is a number of professional development workshops that I need to attend. The mini ipad 2 will help me take notes with the app TopNotes, and will help me get hands on experience in implementing technology as I continue to attend various PD workshops and meetings. I will also be able to organize important information learned with the app Pages. I will also be able to store vital documents and share these documents with my colleagues with the app Dropbox. When videos are available I would have a way to watch those videos and perform online assessments. The knowledge and skills I gain from the workshops will improve the students' reading and writing skills.

These items will help me take notes, get hands on experience in implementing technology, organize my information, and take important online workshops in the implementation of the Common Core Standards.

The ipad will also be very important in collaborating with other teachers during Professional Development Meetings as we continue to learn about Common Core and the different learning approaches to reading and writing.
