My Students

My students live in a rural Texas town. We are a low socioeconomic school. English is a second language for many of the students in my class. Many of these students have limited resources at home and very few life experiences. Many have not traveled outside of our little town.

These energetic second graders come to school every day so eager to learn!

They love to read, use technology, problem solve and make friends. And I love giving them the best educational experiences, materials and resources that I possibly can.

My Project

Today's learners have very different needs than they did when I started teaching 22 years ago. When I first started teaching, classrooms looked much different than my current classroom does. We used overhead projectors, we had more recess time, everything was primary-colored, and we thrived on worksheets to practice, practice, practice! Now, my classroom is decorated in tones of pale green with succulent accents, we use a document camera and projector, we do more and more online work, and kids are unfortunately given much less time each day to play than they were given in past years.

My students need a way to engage in learning in a hands-on way, and an iPad would allow them to do this in countless ways!

Since our students don't get enough time to get all of their energy out while they're outside, we do a lot of stations in class so that they can get moving while in my room. Their favorite station, of course, is technology. I would love to be able to add this iPad and Apple Pencil to our technology station to give my students even more chances and methods to learn and practice academic skills through technology. With this iPad, they'll be able to practice handwriting, work on math fact fluency, write stories, create research projects, and more!
