Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in NYC which is an epicenter of this pandemic. The schools are closed for the rest of the academic year. I'm using google classroom to teach my students and keep them engaged. Most of them received devices from NYCDOE, but I still have a few students who need devices.

My Project

The English Language Learners need a lot of assistance in developing their reading and listening skills. During this remote learning time, some of them are still struggling to get a device to complete assignments. Some families have 2 to 3 siblings and need devices to complete assignments on time. There are plenty of educational websites that can help them tremendously in building reading and listening skills. We need ipads so that my students can use them to access websites created for English Language Learners to build their language skills and complete the assignments.

My students will use the iPads to access online interactive programs, such as starfalls, Eslbee, Englishpage and plenty of other online resources to build their language skills, such as letter/sound recognition, fluency, comprehension, listening, reading and writing skills, communication skills and also most importantly use the iPads to complete assignments in google classroom.

They can listen to reading passages or even music, and be able to play them over and over to develop their listening skills, pronunciation as well as comprehension. Students can also access various reading websites and practice reading. I would also be able to assign student to specific reading websites where they can practice reading and answer comprehension questions. Furthermore, I would be able to track their progress online. They can work in a small group to complete their assigned tasks using the online dictionaries and many other resources. The iPads will also help them to do research on various topics and get familiar with the new culture they're trying to adapt to.
