My Students

Our students are culturally diverse and happy kids. We are a large community school in a crowded neighborhood. Given where the children live, we often have siblings, cousins, and family friends in our school. It helps make our family vibe stronger.

This year I met my new 5th-grade class while video-conferencing on Zoom which is such a strange way to meet!

The children expressed how excited they were to return to the building after being forced to take remote classes from March 2020! As students in New York City Public Schools, the children only attend in-person classes once or twice a week and we only have 4-9 children in the classroom per day. Although saddened by these limited parameters of learning, the children are still so ready to learn!

When they are not in person, they are working remotely from home. It is so clear that these kids are excited and eager to be back in school! This is where I need help. These children deserve the best they can get when they are home. I'd love to get them subscriptions to Storyworks.

My Project

Storyworks magazines are filled with fun and engaging stories and articles. The stories written in Storyworks are relatable to children and are cross-curricular. Usually, my classes love the play that comes in every magazine. We do read alouds and everyone gets to play a part. Storyworks digital also has an online differentiated version. This helps my special education and general education students work together on the same passages and feel included. It is entirely Google Classroom compatible and will help excite and motivate the children while they are working remotely.
