My Students

I teach engineers. I also teach doctors, lawyers, astronauts, police officers, fire fighters, and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. They aren't yet, but they will be one day. In order for this to happen these students need to challenge themselves and expand their imagination through building.

I teach 14 creative kindergarteners.

My students are curious. They are always asking why and how come? They want to know more about how things work and the names of everything they see. I love to see them at this young age so passionate about learning and so curious about the world around them. Our school is considered a high poverty school. Most of the students are unfortunately from some of the more challenging areas in our city. Some live in housing projects that most people are afraid to drive by, and some are from the local homeless shelter.

My Project

My kindergarteners will one day become well respected professionals. Their training starts today. These kindergarteners are going to become engineers in my classroom. They will see how to build with guidance, and they will learn to release their imaginations and create amazing structures. Legos and Duplo blocks have a million uses in the classroom. The blocks will have alphabet stickers on them so the students will be able to build the alphabet and create 3 and 4 letter words. I will put stickers with words and pictures so the students will be able to build by matching the pairs. They will also be able to build by creating sentences with the words and pictures. The Lego studs (official term for the bumps, I looked it up) can be used to help with counting, adding, sorting and graphing. Of, course they will also be able to have free building time, too. The list of the many ways Legos and Duplo blocks can be used to enrich these future engineers can go on and on.

My students can be engineers, scientists, archaeologists, or judges or they can remain living in poverty.

I expect great things from these children, and with your help they will live up to the challenge. Who knows, maybe one of these future engineers will create something even better than a water slide.
