Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are hungry for books that speak to them, books that are windows into their experiences! Every child deserves to have access to a well-rounded library that sparks literary interest and represents narratives that are relevant to the lives of students. This is why I am asking for a variety of books such as, "Brown Girl Dreaming", and "I Am Malala". I would also like to give my students a subscription to Scholastic News. Students will read these books and magazines independently and with classmates, which will help them develop reading fluency and comprehension skills as they discuss what they are reading.

I seek to set up a classroom environment built around my students' strong love for books.

I want to create an environment that is peaceful and full of routines. To create this space, I am asking for flexible seating options. The Calming Corner Bundle will provide a beanbag, pillows, and the Flex-Space seats in 3 colors will ensure students are comfortable while reading, and will allow my students the joy of discovery and imagination, and validation through feeling the authorship and story within their own lives!
